If your roof is leaking now, call Universal Roofing Solutions at (973) 908-0242: during business hours (Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM) we reach active leaks the same day or the next day across Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties.
On the first visit we secure the opening with a tarp or temporary patch, find where the water is getting in and document the damage. Then we schedule the permanent repair.
Do these things in order while you wait for our crew.
Safety first: Never climb onto a roof during or right after a storm. Wet shingles, ice and wind cause serious falls, and a tarp installed in the wrong place can push water further into the house.
Not every roof problem needs a crew within hours. Use this table to judge how fast you need us.
| What you see | How fast to call | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Water dripping through a ceiling, wall or light fixture | Same day | Water is reaching insulation, drywall and wiring |
| A tree or limb has broken through the roof | Same day | Open decking lets rain in with every shower |
| Shingles and underlayment torn off after high wind | Same day | Exposed decking leaks in the next rain |
| Flat roof puncture, open seam or ponding water leaking inside | Same day | Water spreads under the membrane before it shows |
| Missing or lifted shingles, no water inside yet | Next day | Shingles can be replaced before the next storm |
| A stain that grows only in heavy or wind-driven rain | Next day | Usually flashing, a pipe boot or a valley |
| Gutter pulled away from the roof edge | Scheduled repair | No interior risk yet, but water spills against siding and the foundation |
If water comes in after 7 PM or on a Sunday, use the steps above to contain it, then call us or send the contact form so your request is waiting when the office opens.
A tarp buys time. It does not fix the roof.
| Emergency tarp or temporary patch | Permanent roof repair | |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Stop water from getting in now | Fix the cause so the leak does not return |
| When it happens | On the first visit | After we find the cause and you approve the work |
| How long it lasts | Short term; a properly secured tarp generally lasts 30 to 90 days | Long term, with materials matched to your roof |
| What it involves | A heavy tarp secured over the damaged section, or a temporary seal on a small opening | Replacing shingles, flashing, pipe boots, underlayment or decking as needed |
| For your insurance claim | Photos of the damage before and after | Photos, a written report and an estimate for your adjuster |
Why the tarp should not stay on all winter: Wind works tarps loose, and water trapped underneath can rot the decking. We plan the permanent repair as soon as the weather allows.
We handle emergencies on asphalt shingle, metal and flat roofs, for homeowners and commercial property owners:
Once the roof is secured, the permanent work is handled by the same team that provides our roof repair services. If the inspection shows the roof is past the point where spot repairs make sense, we explain what is failing and when a full roof replacement is the better investment.
| Day | Office hours | Response to active leaks |

Our office and crews work the hours above, and every response promise on this page is made inside them, so you know when to expect us.
Our crews leave from our office at 11 Clinton St in Morristown and cover:
Most winter emergencies start as small problems in the fall: clogged gutters, a lifted shingle or worn flashing at the chimney. Our roof maintenance plans include scheduled gutter cleaning and snow removal, and the Platinum Plan adds a full roof tune-up with a flashing inspection.
Yes, when water is coming inside. Active leaks damage insulation, drywall and wiring within hours. Missing shingles with no water inside can usually wait for a next-day visit.

No. Our office and crews work Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM, and we keep every response promise inside those hours. If water comes in after hours, use the steps at the top of this page to contain it, then call us or send the contact form.
It depends on how much of the roof is open, the height and pitch of the roof, and whether the decking is damaged. We secure the roof first, then give you the price for the permanent repair before that work starts.
A properly secured tarp is a short-term fix, generally good for 30 to 90 days. We schedule the permanent repair sooner, because wind loosens tarps and trapped moisture rots decking.
We do not recommend it. Falls from wet roofs are common, and a tarp nailed in the wrong place can create new holes or channel water into the house. Contain the water inside and let our crew handle the roof.
Policies typically cover sudden damage, such as a fallen limb or wind, and exclude gradual wear and tear. Check your policy and call your insurer early. We document the damage with photos and a report, prepare the estimate to insurance requirements and can speak directly with your adjuster.
The water spreads into attic insulation, roof decking, drywall and framing, and damp areas can grow mold. A small repair today is far cheaper than replacing ceilings and decking later.
Yes. We secure and repair flat, low-slope and metal roofs on offices, retail buildings, restaurants, warehouses and mixed-use properties.
